In just the past few months, WINE SPECTATOR Magazine has recognized the quality and value of several Kirkland Signature wines, scoring them '89' and above. The December 31, 2007 issue awarded yet another Kirkland Signature wine, the NV Champagne Brut, with an 'Outstanding' score of '90'. It is obvious that good things are on the horizon for Kirkland Signature wines.
FROM THE AUGUST 2009 WINE ENTHUSIAST: 87 Kirkland Signature 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley); $11. Wow. For eleven bucks, and maybe even less discounted, you get a dry, rich, balanced Cab filled with real varietal character. It shows soft flavors of blackberries and cherries, with herb and olive nuances. Great value. Best Buy--S.H.89 Kirkland Signature 2006 Merlot (Columbia Valley); $9. This is the Costco house brand, and the new Merlot comes through with exceptional flavors for the price. It’s lush and loaded with black cherry and mocha flavors. Tannins are ripe and smooth, the concentration is surprising, and there are no holes in this wine; it plays out smoothly with a very satisfying richness. Best Buy. —P.G.
