WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits
The WSET Level 3 Advanced qualification is intended to provide in-depth knowledge of a wide range of wines and spirits and is open to students who hold the WSET Level 2 Certificate or can demonstrate knowledge at Intermediate Level through completion of equivalent courses or sufficient wine trade experience.
The course covers wines and spirits of the world in considerable depth over 14 two-hour sessions followed by a two-hour examination on session 15. All sessions include tastings.
The Advanced Certificate is a unitised course and requires students to prove competency in theory and tasting. The examination for the Advanced Certificate is in two parts, a theory examination of 50 multiple-choice qustions and four short-answer questions and a tasting examination consisting of a blind tasting of one wine.
The qualification has full accreditation from the UK Government's Qualifications & Curriculum Authority as a Level 3 Vocational Qualification.
The London Wine & Spirit School recommends that students complete at least 56 hours of personal study outside the classroom hours during their course of study. For those attending a consecutive day course it is essential that this study takes place prior to commencing the course. It is strongly recommended that anyone wishing to attend the consecutive day programme book in sufficient time to receive the study material a minimum of four weeks prior to the commencement of the course.
The Advanced Certificate is a prerequisite for students wishing to progress to the Level 4 Diploma Course. Students cannot enrol on to a Diploma course before they have passed the Advanced Certficate. Results for the Advanced Certificate can take up to 12 weeks to process.
