This was a very small vintage and began with some uneven flowering. A late freeze drove flowering into the later part of June, but excellent weather prevailed throughout the remaining vintage year. It was downright hot, and despite a late summer hailstorm, mostly in Chambolle-Musigny, the grapes that were picked from September 24th through October 5th were delivered in beautiful condition. The reds out performed the whites significantly. The wines lack the depth of ripe fruit found in the 1990 or 1993, but they have excellent color, significant grip, and medium high acidity that balance the dry tannins as time fleshes out these wines.
