Review:

This was a very large and inconsistent vintage. Although May lacked rain and was warm, June was very cloudy, wet and too warm. The vintage was somewhat rescued by a fine period from July through August, but it was September rains that helped to produce soft, frail wines meant for early consumption. Only those producers of low yielding vineyards, who preformed severe triage either in the vineyard or on the table or both, and in most cases those who were willing to couple this with saignee, were able to produce wines with any degree of depth or charm. Cool conditions affected flowering and helped to reduce what would have otherwise been an even larger crop. The last part of August and first portion of September was very hot and acidity levels declined as potential alcohol levels soared. The Chardonnay that was picked early are rich full examples but lack the needed acidity levels to lift the vintage. It was the deluge of rain that doomed the Pinot Noir vintage
