Flowering took place over an extended period of 10 days finishing up around the 5th of June. June and July was marked by frequent rain , but there were ample days of sunshine as well. August brought some of the highest Burgundy temperatures in recent years. Pinot Noir was uncharacteristically picked five days before Chardonnay. Sugar levels were some of the highest ever seen in the Cote d'Or. Natural potential alcohol levels almost always exceeded 13% in this vintage. The grapes were picked at very warm temperatures and many growers were not equipped to handle them properly at such high temperatures. For many producers the length of maceration, fermentation, and secondary fermentation were extremely short. The wines often have deep color, they are ripe and supple, but lack supportive acidity, and in general will be shorter lived examples of Burgundy. |
