Considerable problems with the vintage ranging from frost during flowering and hail damage in summer. Some wines still project charm and balance, but many red wines are green edged, herbaceous dilute and weedy, and lack in a purity of fruit. Cote de Nuits fared better than the Cote de Beaune, but only a few wines exhibit dark color, or focused fruit. Mid April Frost affected Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, and Puligny in the Cote de Beaune , and some areas in the Cote de Nuits as well, and eliminated some buds. Secondary buds appeared late in April. Flowering took place in early June after a warm dry May. August was sunny and the vines were stressed at veraison. September began with a rainy period , and subsequent fruit was less than physiologically ripe, with low sugar levels , uneven acidity (most acidulated their wines) and lighter fruit and often unripe tannins. |
