Review:

Once again the red wines from the Cote de Nuits have out performed those from the Cote de Beaune. Flowering in June was extended but the crop size was smaller than ususal . July continued with wet and warm conditions. It was quite warm in August. Sunshine hours in September were shortened by overcast skies, and there was rain. Temperatures were fortunately cooler which helped to keep the incidence of rot to a minimum. The harvest was extended as grapes from the best sites slowly ripened, helped along by the small crop. With better than a year in the barrel the reds have turned out better than thought. They are more complete wines than those produced in 2000, with adequate fruit and color but more acidity. The red wines have a degree of elegance and in many ways are reminiscent of the 1991 vintage. A year in barrel and the completion of secondary fermentation has truly improved the red wines in all but the book ends of the Cote Marsanny, Fixin and Santenay where green herbaceous notes remain.
